Songwriting is something that just happened when I learnt to play bass guitar....
The person who introduced me to the bass I met on a train and here are the lyrics that tell the story.....and here is a video of me performing it! Feel free to sing along!
One day I was sitting on a train (oh yeah)
There was this guy and I was feeling lame (but I looked good)
He had a guitar, he looked like a star
I smiled at him and he wrote his name upon my arm ( and his number too)
We spoke of the blues, we laughed a bit too
Then his stop came and he jumped off with a start (yeah he nearly missed it)
I never heard from him, not a whisper, not a thing
Many moons later when I was round his house (yeah he called)
He said 'Hey Sister' and handed me a bass (guitar)
I did what I could, I think I made it sound good
Wow sister! You got rhythm, I think you're a natural musician (is what he said)
I was as happy as can be, I went online and bought a bass for me (a really nice fender)
He has a guitar, he really really is a star, we still talk of the blues, he still cracks me up too
What a man, to meet upon a train, flipped my life, things are not the same
What a man, to meet upon a train, gives me hope that the world is still insane
What a man, to meet upon a train, start the fun, life is but a game
The little riff that is the melody was a finger exercise for the bass guitar that he taught me to practice.
I love how life works and the directions we are guided to go in by seemingly insignificant happenings.......
